OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE APPROVES BILL TO CREATE
SMART PORTS AND NAFTA SUPERHIGHWAY
Dear Concerned Oklahoma Citizens
On Tuesday, April 29, 2008 the Oklahoma legislature
passed SB 1507 which will allow for the creation of
foreign owned "Smart Ports" within the state of
Oklahoma. The wording in this bill would also allow
for the creation of the NAFTA Superhighway through
Oklahoma. The bill has been sent to Governor Brad
Henry for his signature. Once Governor Henry signs
this bill it will become the law in Oklahoma.
Please read the following wording which was included
in this bill:
4. "Project"
or "projects" means any facility constructed or
improvements made under the provisions of this act by an
international trade processing authority for the purpose
of acquiring, constructing, equipping and operating an
international trade processing center, including rail,
water, air, highway intermodal facilities, and
commercial support facilities, and shall include all
buildings, structures, landscaping, infrastructure,
utilities, roadways, railways, parking structures,
parking lots, sidewalks, personal property and fixtures,
equipment and machinery, and other improvements which an
international trade processing authority may deem
necessary for the operation of such project, together
with all property, rights, easements and interests which
may be acquired by an international trade processing
authority for the construction or operation of such.
The purpose of a "Smart Port" is to allow imported
goods to pass through the U.S./Mexican border
without going through customs until it reaches
Oklahoma. This is the first major step into
creating a connecting NAFTA Superhighway through
Oklahoma. This bill must be stopped IMMEDIATELY!!
Please call Governor Henry's office Wednesday
morning and urge him to veto SB 1507.
